Disability and Fitness to Work Reports
Determining Medical Capacity and Limitations
These reports help determine whether a person is fit to return to work after injury or illness. They may be used by employers, insurers, or legal teams during settlement discussions or ongoing employment disputes.
What's Included in the Fitness to Work Report?
Each report provides a structured, evidence-based assessment designed to support clear decision-making in legal and insurance contexts.
- The worker's medical condition and current functional status
- How the condition affects capacity for work
- Whether the worker is fit for their pre-illness role
- Whether the worker is fit for any other role, and if so, what restrictions or accommodations would be needed
- Prognosis for recovery and likelihood of return to work
- Whether the condition meets the relevant criteria for permanent ill-health (where this is the question)
- Comment on any treatment that might improve function

Working with employers, insurers, and pension trustees
Reports are prepared to address the specific questions raised in the letter of instruction. Where the report informs a pension or insurance decision, the relevant policy definitions are applied carefully. Where the report informs a return-to-work decision, practical recommendations are included.
Independence and confidentiality
All reports are independent. The worker is informed at the start of the assessment of the purpose of the report, who has instructed it, and who will receive it. Medical confidentiality is respected in line with professional standards.
Fees and turnaround
Disability and fitness to work assessments are charged at €600 plus VAT. Standard turnaround is 10 to 14 days.
Frequently Asked Questions

The worker is informed at the outset of the purpose of the report and who will receive it. Information is shared only with the instructing party in line with that consent.
Permanent ill-health is a contractual term used in many pension and insurance policies. It typically requires that the condition is unlikely to permit return to the worker's role before normal retirement age. The exact definition varies by policy.
Yes. The worker is welcome to bring a supporter to the appointment. The clinical examination, however, is conducted by the doctor alone with the worker.
